I have found that the following infield drill teaches throwing, catching, and fielding ground balls. It can be used with all age groups. I have found it to be useful even for 7-8 year olds. Run the drill for 8-10 minutes. Put the kids into 4 groups as shown below. The distance between the groups should be adjusted to the throwing ability of the players. The drill starts out by the child at position #1 throwing the ball to position 2. After the throw the player runs to position 2 (follows the throw). Player at position 2 receives the throw then rolls a ground ball diagonally to position 3. Once again the player at position 2 follows their throw to position 3. The player receiving the ground ball at position 3 then throws the ball to #4 and follows their throw. x x With this drill you can teach accurate throws, proper techniques for fielding a ground ball as well as catching a thrown ball. The drill also involves a lot of running. When following your throw the runner should run on the outside between position 1-2 and 3-4 to keep from interferring with the following ground ball. I hope you find the drill useful.

BTW: To include a diagram with your drill you will need to prefix it with a
HTML command and end with a
command. You need to do this because
the browser condenses a series of spaces or new lines into one space. Also, to increase the font size use... at the beginning and at the end.
